Directions to the YMCA of Greater Boston Central Branch

The YMCA is very near Northeastern University (accessible from the Green Line).

Our class will meet in the library of the YMCA (just off the lobby). Wheelchair access is at the back of the building. (Follow the red carpet to the lobby and then turn right for the library.)

If you plan to come by MBTA, choose the Green Line "E" trains from Park Street. (If you're from out of town: there are a number of different Green trains but E is the only train you should take.) Get off the train at the Northeastern University stop. Cross the street and walk a half block to your left (back towards downtown Boston). Look for the bright blue, red, and yellow YMCA banners. Once you enter from Huntington, the library will be on the left.

Note that most MBTA trains run less frequently on weekends (and on Sunday they run less frequently than on Saturday), so allow plenty of time!

If you plan to come by car...

From the west:

Take 90 East (Massachusetts Turnpike) all the way to Boston.

Leave 90 (the Pike) at Exit 22, Prudential/Copley. When the exit forks, take the left fork, "Prudential Center".

You will come above ground onto Huntington Avenue. Continue along Huntington (taking the tunnel under Massachusetts Avenue, then continuing through another light); the YMCA will be on your left.

You can park at the Uptown Garage; to get there, take the left at the light (just after the tunnel) onto Gainsborough Street.

From the north:

Take 95 South to Route 93 South all the way to Boston.

Leave 93 at Exit 18, Mass. Ave./Roxbury. Stay to the right. At the end of the ramp where there is a green sign (Mass. Ave./Boston City Hospital), turn right.

You are now on Massachusetts Avenue. Take Mass. Ave. for 9 miles (almost to the eighth set of lights, which is Huntington, but there's no left turn there so you will be turning a bit early) and then turn left onto St. Botolph Street. If you want to drive by the front of the YMCA, turn right on Gainsborough, and then left onto Huntington. Otherwise...

You can park at the Uptown Garage on Gainsborough Street.

From the south:

Take 95 North to Route 93 North all the way to Boston.

From Storrow Drive:

  Take the Copley Square exit.

Continue on Beacon to Exeter Street. Turn right onto Exeter.

Continue on Exeter to Huntington. Turn right onto Huntington.

Continue along Huntington (through two stoplights, then taking the tunnel under Massachusetts Avenue, then continuing through another light); the YMCA will be on your left.

You can park at the Uptown Garage; to get there, take the left at the light (just after the tunnel) onto Gainsborough Street.

Parking at the Uptown Garage is $12-15 on Saturday. From the garage, you can enter the back of the YMCA building and follow the red carpeting to the lobby. The library will be on your right.

Metered parking spaces are also available on Saturday but you will have to feed your meter every 2 hours to avoid a ticket.

On Sunday you can park on the street for free.
