SUMMARY:The Alchemy of Relationship: I love you & I really want to understand you
DESCRIPTION:“I love you\, & I really want to understand you.” \nOur intimate relationships are so important to us\, and yet sometimes we struggle to connect with our partners. We feel unable to understand them\, and completely stymied about expressing ourselves both authentically and lovingly.  In this workshop we will explore how to use challenges in intimate relationships as opportunities to grow both individually and as a couple. \nThroughout the day\, structured exercises will allow you to safely explore some of thetensions in your relationship. You will gain skills for understanding yourself and your partner more accurately as you learn how to transform conflicts into shared dilemmas\, and how to connect again after disconnection. While this is deep work\, we’ll also laugh together\, practice appreciation and gratitude\, while enjoying a day of renewed connection and hope. \nThe workshop is open to couples who are new to NVC as well as those with NVC experience. This day is focused on relationships\, but everyone – with or without a partner is welcome. \nConsider joining us for this workshop in which we will focus on transforming any judgmental thought by translating it into feelings and needs. \nThis is a great opportunity for couples to get on the same page with NVC.\nPaul and Gail use their own relationship and challenges in sharing how they use NVC as a structure in their own relationship. \nThe workshop is open to those who are new to NVC as well as those with NVC experience.\n When: Saturday\,March 14     10am – 5pm\n Location: Friend’s Meeting House\, 5 Longfellow Park Cambridge\, MA\n Cost: $130 each if registered by 3/6/20\, $140 if registered after 3/6/20 \n——————————– \nTO REGISTER: Click Here \n——————————– \nFacilitated by CNVC certified trainer Gail Carroll and Paul Merrill\nGail and Paul were both teachers of NVC when they met as continuing students in a year long NVC mediation program in 2010. Sharing a common language of NVC was crucial to remaining connected throughout the inevitable conflicts of intimacy. In 2011\, they began to focus their NVC teaching on skills and practices they were using in their own relationship conflicts.

SUMMARY:Embodying Nonviolent Communication: A day of mindfulness-supported NVC
DESCRIPTION:Nonviolent Communication is more than a communication technique; it’s a way of being. Join meditation teacher and NVC trainer Bonnie Mioduchoski for a day full of embodied\, experiential practice. Deepen your ability to identify\, observe\, and experience feelings and needs in the body\, so your words align with your truth. The day includes guided meditations\, discussion\, and interactive practices to help you experience feelings and needs from the inside out. NVC and mindfulness help us deepen our connection to ourselves and others. These practices help us live with more compassion\, clarity\, and fulfillment. \nSome experience with NVC and Mindfulness is helpful. However\, you will benefit even if you’re new to both practices. \nIn this experiential workshop\, you will: \n\nGain skill in identifying and coping with triggers\nLearn basic mindfulness practices to identify and be with your feelings and needs\nPractice experiencing feelings and needs in the body for greater alignment with decisions and actions\nExplore tools that make space for unpleasant feelings and unmet needs\, which leads to more choice and less reactivity\nUncover challenges to being with your emotions and needs\nPractice speaking from an embodied place\, so feelings and needs guide connection versus a formula\n\nPlease note: If you’re interested in an introductory NVC workshop\, please check the NVC Boston schedule; this is not a basic introduction of the NVC model.  \nQuestions? Please contact Bonnie by email. \nRegistration \nTo register for the regular $130 rate (no more early bird tickets remain)\, please email Bonnie by clicking here with your name\, phone number and the number of people you’d like to register. She will handle payments with you directly. \nFull Refunds given\, less any credit card / PayPal processing fees\, if canceled by 5pm February 11\, 2020. \nAbout Bonnie  \nBonnie began her mindfulness journey with an 8-day silent retreat in 2005. Over the next several years she deepened her practice and attended numerous silent retreats\, the longest lasting three months\, as well as a 2-year program run by Spirit Rock for dedicated meditation practitioners. She settled in Cambridge\, MA in 2007 to have access to a local daily meditation center and a major retreat center nearby. That year she encountered Nonviolent Communication and attended a training with founder Marshall Rosenberg. She attended many trainings and retreats since then and has led trainings for NVC Boston and served as staff at the New York Intensive several times. She enjoys bringing mindfulness and NVC together to deepen the learning experience. \nBonnie has taught mindfulness to hundreds of students in elementary schools using the Mindful Schools curriculum. She has worked with thousands of adults as Guiding Teacher for Mindful Schools\, leading the Mindfulness Fundamentals course and also the Mindful Educator Essentials. She initiated and led a project to revamp Mindful School’s learning management system. This allowed them to improve the delivery and experience of their online courses and expand their offerings and availability. \nBonnie is a Certified Facilitator of The Work of Byron Katie and works one-on-one with individuals and leads workshops in The Work\, Mindfulness and Non-Violent communication (NVC). She served as a mediator in the Boston small claims courts for the Harvard Mediation Program and led classes for the Boston NVC community. She has also taught at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. Bonnie enjoys supporting people to connect to themselves in ways that lead to balance\, self-compassion\, and integrity. She is fluent in French and English.

SUMMARY:Beyond Basics: Transforming Conflict & Deeping Connection
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\n\nGrow your NVC communication skills and be present to what’s happening within and around you.\nThis month we are offering an extended workshop\, with an introduction on Friday night for those new to NVC\, and then a full workshop the next day. This extra time will  allow us all to go deeper\, using new skills to shift your persistent conflicts.\nIf you’ve participated in previous NVC workshops and wish to attend Saturday only\, please email gcarroll@nvcboston.org \n\n\nWe all know that in moments of anger and fear  we unfortunately choose  the communication that just lead to more conflict – communication that consumes time and energy but does not contribute to connection or peace.\nChanging how we communicate means consciously shifting from old\, well-worn habits towards unfamiliar attitudes and tentative skills. Can we find fresh ways to understand our thoughts and actions\, and those of the other people in our lives?\nIn this longer workshop we’ll explore several fundamental qualities of NVC.  Self empathy— identifying\, understanding\, and loving the needs that are alive\, and perhaps kicking awkwardly\, within us. Feeling into the reality of another’s world\, passing through the behavior we abhor to the needs that we share. Including ourselves in any conversation\, speaking our truth in ways that deepen connection. \n\n\nPractice in pairs or small groups– learn by doing.\n\n\nRole play: witness yourself\, understand the other\, safely taste your fear\, authentically request what you long for.\n\n\nUse your real life situations.\n\n\n\n\nThe richness of appreciation: taking the time to celebrate what is\, and build on what’s working.\n\nIf you’ve participated in previous NVC workshops and wish to attend Saturday only\, please email gcarroll@nvcboston.org\nTo Register:\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:MEDIATE YOUR LIFE: Resolving Conflicts Internally
DESCRIPTION:Everyone knows that peace has to begin with oneself\, but not many people know how to do it.\n– Thich Nhat Hanh \nA life changes one conversation at a time. When you change your life\, the world changes. The first conversation to have is with yourself. \n To be truly at ease with yourself and with those around you is transformative. The first step is to approach every conflict – whether internal or external – as an opportunity. The Mediate Your Life Resolving Conflicts Internally intensive is a 4-day training that integrates Compassionate Communication (Nonviolent Communication/NVC)\, mindfulness\, and a mediation framework to help you learn to negotiate conflicts within\, whether they are with another person or between warring parts of yourself. \nThe full Choosing Peace Immersion Program consists of three 4-day intensives. These intensives are particularly powerful and transformative when done as a year program of three intensives\, with partner practice in between. However\, they are designed so that they can be taken individually as stand-alone trainings or as a package of two intensives\, and in any order:\n– Resolving Conflicts Internally training: Jan 12-15\, 2018\n– Reconciliation and Healing training: Apr 19-22\, 2018\n– [Conflict to Connection training: to be scheduled in 2018]\n(Tuition and Schedule information below) \nPeace\, connection\, happiness and fulfillment are learnable skills. \nPerhaps you need to prepare yourself to have that difficult conversation with another person. Perhaps you’ve had an upsetting conversation and want to process and recover from it. Or perhaps you want to reconcile the different parts of yourself that are in conflict. \nIn the Resolving Conflicts Internally workshop\, you will learn to use a mediation framework to facilitate these conflicts internally. By shifting into a “mediator mind\,” you will metaphorically move into the third “mediator” chair to witness different parts of yourself\, or imagine a conversation between yourself and another person\, and thus be present\, mindful and able to respond and act in ways you feel good about afterwards. \nAdvocate for yourself with yourself. \nIf you’ve ever experienced intrusive thoughts of guilt or shame\, or found yourself judging or “beating yourself up\,” then you know that banishing these thoughts doesn’t work. \nWe all have aspects of ourselves that sabotage our best intentions. If these internal “voices\,” which are quite often judgmental\, cause you to feel “stuck” and conflicted about reaching your goals\, then Resolving Conflicts Internally is for you. \nNegotiate peace with yourself. Create the life you want. \nWe teach you to mediate between these different parts of yourself until they collaborate to find a shared sense of connection. The goal of this training is not only to find internal relief\, peace and ease- but to also discover clarity about what action to take. \nReal skills for real transformation. Four days that will change your life. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn: \nA mediation “map” for transforming within yourself “enemy images” of others (sometimes of the people closest to us!). The process gives the ability to provide within yourself empathic understanding and connection for yourself and for the other person\, and from this discover creative new possibilities for taking effective\, compassionate action\, including preparing to have a difficult conversation\nA map for transforming self-judgment\, particularly around having difficult conversations\, into self-understanding\, appreciation\, and positive learning\nA map for generating deeper self-compassion when you are caught in harsher self-criticism\, and from this finding new strategies and agreements with yourself to better create the life and relationships you want\nA map for mediating between “warring” parts of yourself and finding clarity and inner alignment when caught in internal conflict\, angst\, or confusion over a decision to make or a direction to move in\nThe training is highly experiential and interactive in a warm\, supportive\, safe learning environment. You learn through real life demonstrations\, in-depth practice in dyads and triads\, supportive coaching\, giving and receiving positive peer feedback\, and group sharing. There is the opportunity\, if you wish\, to work with real situations from your personal and work life\, so you not only gain deep skill development\, you also benefit from the personal growth and transformation. You also become part of a connected learning community\, both during the workshop and after\, so you can practice together to deepen and integrate the learning over time in your daily life\, and receive invaluable support to respond to the challenges in your life. \nThe full Choosing Peace Immersion Program consists of three 4-day intensives. SUMMARY:Can We Disagree & Still Connect? - An NVC Skill Building Workshop
DESCRIPTION:There are some people whose choices are so distasteful to us we can’t agree with them.\nWe might not even want to\, their behaviors are so far away from our values and beliefs. \nWhat then? \nSometimes we can just walk away\, sure and secure in our opinion of being ‘Right’. But what if they are a member of our family\, or belong to some greater community that we want to nurture and be a part of? The gift of NVC is that the components enable you to sincerely connect with people you don’t even like! \nIn this daylong class you will have a chance to develop these NVC skills.\n•	Acknowledging your reactive self\, and doing something different\n•	Remaining self connected in the face of intensity\n•	Consciously choosing empathy or authentic self-expression\n•	Stating your values without contributing to the conflict \nThis class is designed for those who have already been introduced to the basics of NVC. We will be putting together those NVC components\, and using them in increasingly realistic role plays. The class will be challenging\, while at the same time\, students will be supported with clearly structured exercises and incremental learning. \n$125\nTO pay by check\, please register here and send a check to:\nNVCBoston\nc/o Gail Carroll\n357 Old Dublin Road\nHancock\, NH 03449 \nOR \nRegister

SUMMARY:Beyond Basics and into Ourselves
DESCRIPTION:Beyond the Basics\, and into Ourselves \nGrow your communication and life skills in NVC to flourish and be present to what’s happening in and around you. \nWe all know that in moments of anger\, upset\, sadness\, fear or frustration there’s a much increased chance of us falling back on the kind of communication that leads to disconnection and conflict – communication that takes time and energy but does not give much in return. \nChanging how you communicate means changing habits\, changing thinking\, developing and strengthening skills\, and finding new ways to understand your thoughts and actions\, and those of the other people in your life. \nIn this NVC workshop\, we’ll explore our conditioned reactions and the hidden agendas that can keep us stuck. We can each start with acceptance of “where I am now\,” set up some practices and celebrate each new willingness to live in this consciousness and practice. \nWe’ll spend time with the practices of self empathy\, self responsibility\, identifying needs that are alive and kicking within us\, and then…self expression. \n\n A focus form the inside out\nChances to use your real-life situations to guide experiential learning\nPractice time in pairs or small groups– learning communication by communicating\nI will be sending out NVC material in the weeks before the workshop\, with a request that you spend time with it before the workshop.\n\nWho’s it for? \nThis is not an introductory workshop. \nThose with some knowledge of these NVC  concepts:  empathy\,  needs versus strategy\, and faux feelings.   You don’t have to have mastered these!  Just know the concepts\, as I will briefly review them\, but won’t be teaching them. \nNew to NVC?  There are books and links that would support you in getting these basics before the workshop.  Please contact me if you wish to acquire this understanding in order to attend this workshop. \nTo register:\nRegister Now

SUMMARY:The Art of Empathy ~ A day long interactive workshop
DESCRIPTION:An interactive\, daylong communication workshop based on the work of Marshall Rosenberg. \nWould you like to increase your ability to empathize in the moment with yourself and others?\nDo you seem to have an intellectual understanding of NVC — maybe you have read the book or watched some videos — yet you still struggle to access compassion in the daily conflicts of life? \nPlease consider joining us for this day in which we will focus on transforming any judgmental thought by translating it into feelings and needs.\nIn group exercises and structured role plays you will be answering these two crucial questions:\nWhen I am judging something as wrong what emotion am I feeling and what values of mine are at stake?\nAnd that person who is doing/saying that thing I hate/fear\, what need are they trying to meet\, just like me?\nExperiencing these two transformative questions is the basis for an empathic relationship to oneself and others. It is also crucial in any productive dialogue or negotiation: we need to understand ourselves and hear others. \nThis workshop is designed for anyone new to NVC\, as well as for anyone with NVC experience that wishes to practice and deepen empathy skills. It is all about having access to empathy for ourselves and others in the moments when we need it most! \nCost: $125 \nTo Register: please send a check for $125.00 to NVCBoston\, 49 Fairview Ave\, Watertown\, MA 02472 \nor \nsend payment to paypal: payments@nvcboston.org\nFriend’s Meeting HouseLongfellow Park\, Cambridge\, MA 02138 \nJanuary 21\, 10a-5p\nQuestions: email gcarroll@nvcboston.org

SUMMARY:MAKING REQUESTS: Bringing Needs to Life
DESCRIPTION:Making Requests – Half-day Skill Building Workshop \n\nDo you want a greater sense of power in your life?\nDoes not knowing what you’d ask for keep you from making requests?\nWould you like to know how to ask for what you want while deepening your connection with others?\n\nThis NVC skill building class will explore insights about living a life of self connection and interdependence\, with a focus on requests –\nthe 4th element of the NVC model. SUMMARY:Post Election Empathy ~Listening for what Matters
DESCRIPTION:We will be donating 100% of profits coming from this workshop to a social justice cause that may be jeopardized by the recent election.  Charity to be determined after polling for input form class participants. \nAn interactive\, daylong communication workshop based on the work of Marshall Rosenberg. \nThis month NVC Boston will be focusing on politics: a place where we rarely feel that people with different opinions are as fully human as ourselves. \nWe are inclined to trust completely the correctness of our opinion\, and to ascribe stupidity or maliciousness to those who believe differently. We flock to find agreement and validation\, avoiding conversation or even contact w the ‘others’. If we do have conversations they quickly become a futile exchange of ‘fact’s\, which\, to our surprise\, are almost completely ineffective at changing/transforming positions \nPaul and Gail will be teaching together this month. With both of them in the room there will more opportunities for coaching support\, as well as witnessing NVC in collaborative leading and conversational role plays. This class will be a multi-level class\, appropriate for beginners as well as students w NVC experience. All of us can use support in softening the judgments that prevent reconciliation and change.\nWhile we will be using political content as a place to explore transforming our judgments into needs\, while understanding the stories and suffering of our “opponents”\, any student can use their content of choice in the participatory exercises.\nThis workshop is designed for anyone new to NVC\, as well as for anyone with NVC experience that wishes to practice and deepen NVC skills. \nWhile we will be using politics as a trigger\, what we learn and practice in this workshop  can be used in a wide variety of real-life situations\, and in most all relationships\, from intimate to professional. \nBy understanding and acknowledging the human needs that underlie everyone’s words and actions\, we can create a shared basis for connection\, cooperation\, and peace. \nSome of the topics will be: \n\nListening for what matters\nreflecting what you hear\, not what you think\nUsing your judgments to discover your needs\nSelf-expressing authentically without blame\n\nThe day will be a balanced combination of group instruction\, partner work and structured role play. \nFacilitated by CNVC certified trainer Gail Carroll and Paul Merrill \nCost: $115  profits to be donated to social justice charity \nYou can register online\, or  send a check to NVCBoston\, 49 Fairview Ave\, Watertown\, MA 02472 along with  an email to Gail at gcarroll@nvcboston.org \nRegister
